We’re New Puppy Pet Parents—And We Were Exhausted.
The story of Avi’s Pet Door started when we brought home our new 10 week old puppy. Like every new pet parent, we were doing our best—crate training, nighttime potty runs, and lots of lost sleep. For the first few weeks, we were waking up twice a night, every three hours, to let her out of her crate to pee.
And like most puppy owners, we hit a wall. We were newly married, agitated and arguing due to our lack of sleep because of our new furry friend.
One night bleary-eyed and desperate, debating whether we needed marriage counseling or to return our puppy (kidding), we pushed her crate with the door open up against the doggy door and decided to force the issue. Either she learns to use the dog door at night to pee, pees in her crate where she sleeps, or we keep losing sleep. Within the first night, our 10-week-old puppy was confidently using the doggy door at night—no accidents and no more nightly wake ups and a saved marriage.
We couldn’t believe the independence it gave her—and the sleep and sanity it gave us.
Avi’s Pet Door quickly became an essential tool for puppy training and giving our dog independence. All was well- until our first trip away from home with our puppy. The dog door we were using at home was a bulky, one-piece unit made of metal and glass. It was heavy, awkward to move, and definitely not designed for travel—and we couldn’t fit it in our car. Nothing existed. That’s when we knew we had to build one ourselves.
So we designed Avi’s Pet Door—a travel friendly, portable, foldable, lightweight doggy door that fits into any standard sliding glass door and takes just seconds to put together and install. No tools are required, no damage, no headaches. It’s the door we wish existed when we were traveling with our puppy, and now we can’t travel without it.
